- News from SCAD’s Production Lab
-
- The Savannah College of Art and Design has acquired several new pieces of
- equipment for the Graphic Design Department’s Production Lab:
-
- • Accuset 1000 Imagesetter
- • Raster Image Processor 400
- • Rapiline 17 Processor
- • AGFAPROOF PRS 2 Proofing System
-
- This color digital prepress equipment, which is all manufactured by Agfa,
- changes Macintosh files to camera-ready art at 3000 dots per inch.
-
- The Accuset will handle film, both positive and negative, and positive and
- negative paper. It will also do four-color separations. The proofing system will
- take four-color separations and proof what the image will look like before it
- goes to press.
-
- This equipment allows SCAD to do all of its production work in-house. Graphic
- design students will be able to learn these digital color prepress techniques,
- and the Production Lab is also open to clients in the community.
-
- This new equipment joins an already sophisticated assortment of hardware,
- including a Canon color printer/copier with Fiery interface, a Leaf scanner,
- flatbed scanners, and numerous Quadra and Centris 650 computers. A new lab
- contains a number of additional computers, including the new Quadra 840AV
- machines and a workgroup server.
-
- Visitors to SCAD’s Graphic Design Department in recent months have included Paul
- Rand, London designer Malcolm Garrett, and Robin Williams.
